In the nano dimension gold shows a rich Plasmon band in the visible that is why it becomes most promisingdeliverable. The application of gold nanoparticles in plasmonic and as SERS substrate are now well recognized. Involvement of gold nanoparticles in Coinage Metals after the ground breaking work of Haruta is now slowly being rationalized. The formal potential can be made variable depending on size and shape. So size and shape controlled catalysis are very much in the picture of Coinage Metals. Now gold nanoparticle has become a talk of the day for biomedical applications viz., cancer detection, drug delivery and also in photodynamic therapy.
Tarasankar Pal, Professor of Chemistry Department, IIT Kharagpur is going to have a talk on discoveries and importance of simple and core-shell gold particles at Analytica Acta-2012. His research field covers Inorganic Chemistry, Synthesis of Metal & Oxide Nanoparticles, Homo-& Heterogeneous Catalysis, Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS), Analytical and Environmental Chemistry.
